Chai Time for Older Adults
December 19, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

“Chai” in Hindi and Urdu means tea. In South Asia tea or chai has cultural and historical significance along with economic and health benefits. Tea is and has been a major part of South Asian culture for a very long time, traditionally, chai time is a time of gathering, a family time. The first written record of tea in Indian literature is in the Ramayna, which was written between 750 and 500 BCE. Keeping this tradition in mind, SAHARA holds a monthly gathering of older adults, a circle of sharing where we get together to drink chai, support each other, have fun and talk about how to manage stress. It is held on every second Thursday at the SAHARA office.
