SAHARA ELDER CARE SERVICES ELDER ABUSE

ELDER SERVICES

At SAHARA we believe that every member of the community should be treated with respect and dignity, and we provide comprehensive elderly care services to our older adults.

“Elder abuse” is much more common than we think. It may include physical, emotional, sexual abuse along with financial profiteering, by the people who are fully in charge of their wellbeing.

In the last year over a half a million older Americans reported abuse, however many other cases go unnoticed and unreported. As older adults become more vulnerable, they can’t take care of themselves, and are unable to stand up to the abuser.

Mental, physical and emotional illnesses can make older adults easy targets for people around them. They might not hear or see as good as they used to which may allow them to be targeted by unethical people, who take advantage of them.

Elder abuse usually takes place where the person resides – in a home or institutional setting. The abuser is usually an adult child, grandchild, spouse, partner. In institutionalized setting it could be the caregivers or staff, who are abusing the older adults.

At SAHARA we believe that our elders deserve to live their life with dignity, respect and free from physical, emotional, abandonment, financial and sexual abuse. SAHARA helps elders within the South Asian Community by providing them with a safe, healthy and harmonious space.
